TALES OF ART DIRECTION!

As I've been going through the archive of projects I've worked on over the years to update my websites I wanted to feature a few of the super fun ones here. I'm excited to share a collaboration with the incredibly talented Dan Mumford! Early on in my career we worked together on a Star Wars art piece that helped me to develop my understanding of art direction as well as push composition and storytelling in every image.

After our first piece working together I became very aware of Dan's insane mastery of line work and ability to create dynamic scenes. After that I felt it was time to discuss Star Ward, and I had a long think as to what would work best within his style. I was like, where are there flames, something that lends to repetition of line within the scenery, and something that was truly an epic moment. After my suggestion of the moment that Jabba's Sail Barge was going down in flames, we worked on the composition and the subject matter really shone through and the perspective of the rescue crew watching on as they sail away across a desert landscape tells the story beautifully.

One of the most exciting aspects of this print was the use of a Glitter Ink for the sky layer. This unique choice added a stunning effect, making the suns look as if they were actually setting as when you move the print the light changes noticeably, and giving the print an extra dimension of depth and shine.

Collaborating with Dan has always been an incredible experience, and I'm still thrilled with how this piece turned out. We've worked together time and time again to make some really fun pieces.

Hope you guys enjoy this look into the behind the poster!
