This skateboard design is based on an image I had taken in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I loved the juxtaposition of the seemingly native elements of this man walking around in the headdress and all around so much commerce. There was a Starbucks, restaurants, an American Apparel, and all sorts of touristy things. The process was a bit of painstaking in the fact that I took the image, separated the elements in photoshop, exported them to illustrator and made elements vector, printed them in vinyl decals in multiple layers to make a cymk printable image, and layer by layer laid out the color with spray paint. This is a process I have been refining for my personal enjoyment, and I hope to share this passion with others.
